Have you ever baked a cake in the Varoma of the Thermomix? Actually it should say: steam cooked. ;-) However, the result is the same: a delicious Varoma cake (in this case banana-chocolate cake) that remains particularly juicy because it is cooked in steam.

What we find particularly practical when baking in the Varoma is that you can also prepare a smaller cake without using the oven. Then, for example, the main course (delicious lasagne, casseroles, roasts) can be in the oven and the Thermomix bakes the cake for the dessert.

Ingredients for the Varoma cake from the Thermomix:

  • 200ml buttermilk
  • 170g mascobado (raw cane sugar)
  • 1 egg, size M
  • 40ml sunflower oil
  • 250g spelled flour, type 630
  • 50g walnuts, chopped
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 75g chocolate chips
  • 250g banana, mashed with a fork (weight including peel)
  • some soft butter to grease the mold

Preparation:

1. First add the sugar, oil, buttermilk and egg to the mixing bowl and mix for 10 seconds on speed 5. Then add the remaining ingredients and mix on level 3 for 15 seconds.

2. The finished dough can now be placed in the previously greased and floured springform pan (we used our Varoma springform pan for this). In order for baking to work in the Varoma, cling film must be stretched over the Varoma springform pan and, ideally, secured with a household rubber band. When everything is done, 1.5 liters of water can be poured into the clean mixing bowl. Put the lid and Varoma on, place the springform pan in it, close it with the Varoma lid and cook the Varoma cake for 75 minutes on the Varoma setting and level 1 in the Thermomix.

At the end, put the finished Varoma cake out, remove the foil and let it cool slightly. It's best to toss it while it's still lukewarm and then enjoy. But the Varoma cake also tastes excellent cold. And even if it is unlikely that there will be anything left over, you can freeze the cake from the Thermomix and then defrost it again.
