Cabbage rolls like grandma made with the Thermomix

Cabbage rolls are a classic comfort dish that simply always tastes good. With the Thermomix and the Varoma, they are particularly tender and juicy - without any great effort. The filling of minced meat, onions and spices is perfectly steamed in tender cabbage leaves, accompanied by potatoes and a creamy sauce. An all-round delicious and nutritious dish that will delight the whole family. Let's get straight to it!

 

Stuffing:

  • 120 g onions, halved
  • 500 g minced meat
  • 2 eggs
  • 100 g breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tbsp dried parsley
  • 1/2 tsp sweet paprika
  • A little pepper 

Cabbage: 

  • 10 cabbage leaves
  • 1 liter of boiling water
  • kitchen string 

Garnish:

  • 750 g potatoes

Sauce:

  • 75 g water
  • 1 tbsp tomato puree
  • 50 g cream
  • 50 g milk
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • salt & pepper 

 

And this is how it works

Prepare the filling: Chop the onion & garlic, e.g. using the miximizer

Start the food processor: Chop for 3 seconds / speed 5 

    Add the minced meat, eggs, breadcrumbs and spices. 

    Start the food processor: Mix for 20 seconds / speed 4 

    Prepare the cabbageCut out the stalk at the bottom of each cabbage leaf in a wedge shape. Bring a large pan of water to the boil, remove from the heat and leave the cabbage leaves to soak in the hot water for 5 minutes. 

    Shape the rouladesDivide the mince mixture into 10 portions and shape into long meatballs. Wrap a cabbage leaf around each dumpling and secure with kitchen string.

     

    Place the roulades in the Varoma (five roulades in the Varoma container, five in the tray).

    Prepare side dishPeel the potatoes, cut into bite-sized cubes and place in the steamer basket.

    CookingAdd 500 g of water and 1 teaspoon of vegetable stock to the mixing bowl. Insert the cooking basket and place the Varoma closed on the mixing bowl lid.


    Start the food processor: Cook for 35 minutes / Varoma / level 1.

    Keep food warmAfter cooking, place the Varoma and cooking basket on flat plates.


    Tip: With the keep-warm hoods MiPla keep the roulades and potatoes warm until the sauce is ready.

    Preparing the sauceAdd water, tomato purée, cream, milk, flour, salt and pepper to the cooking liquid.

    Start the food processor: Heat for 3 minutes / 100°C / speed 3.
    Season to taste and serve with the cabbage rolls and potatoes.
