Meatballs In Tomato Fennel Sauce

  • 2 pieces fennel (bulb)
  • 1000 g minced meat mixed
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 2 cans of chopped tomatoes
  • 100 ml water
  • Salt
  • pepper
  • Sweet paprika powder
  • 2 pinches of sugar


Clean the fennel bulb, cut off the fennel greens and set aside. Halve the tuber and cut out the stalk. Cut the fennel into wedges (approx. 1 cm). Mix the minced meat with salt, pepper and paprika powder and form into balls. Fry in a pan with the oil for 4-5 minutes on each side. Decant and set aside briefly. Fry the fennel in the frying fat for 3 minutes, season lightly with salt. Add the tomatoes and water, bring to the boil and season with salt and a pinch of sugar. Now put the meatballs back in the pan and simmer in the sauce over medium heat for 10 minutes. Finely chop the fennel greens and sprinkle over the sauce. It goes well with fresh ciabatta bread
